Winter Lecture - Silk Weaving in Sudbury

THE SOCIETY’S WINTER LECTURE 2023
Richard Humphries will tell the story of Sudbury’s last remaining silk weaving business.
Tuesday, November 28th, 8 pm, at Nayland Village Hall.
Admission is £10 including a drink.
Continuing a long tradition of silk weaving in Sudbury, Humphries Weaving supplied the silk brocade for both the interior of the Gold Coach and the throne used for the Coronation of King Charles III in May this year. One of the few remaining silk-weaving companies remaining in Great Britain, it has also woven silk for Windsor Castle, Dumfries House, and 10 Downing Street, to name but a few, together with numerous National Trust properties and locally, Gainsborough’s House.
An accomplished raconteur, Richard’s tale is one of determination, perseverance and indomitable spirit. He has over 50 years experience as one of Britain's foremost silk weavers.
The Hall is located in Church Lane, Nayland, Suffolk, CO6 4JH, just off the High Street and close to the village centre.
