Join is for our annual winter lecture on December 9th in Nayland. This year, Charlie Haylock, renowned raconteur, radio broadcaster, and dialect coach will provide an intriguing and sometimes hilarious look behind the scenes of the making of The Dig, which starred Ralph Fiennes.

This Netflix film, The Dig, was based on a novel with the same title by John Preston about the discovery of the famous Sutton Hoo burial ship and the people involved.

Charlie will explain how a potential “scam” email from The Dig's producer turned out to be real, and was then followed by a phone call from Ralph Fiennes himself. Charlie will demonstrate his unique method and fascinating way of teaching actors, including Ralph Fiennes, how to master a regional dialect, so it sounds natural and not exaggerated and “put on”.

Charlie will also explain the extreme lengths Ralph Fiennes took, not only to play Basil Brown, but to become Basil Brown. This evening should be both informative and extremely entertaining.

Tickets are just £10 - available online or at the door.
