The committee meeting held on 12th July 2016
The following matters were discussed:
  • The proposed extension of the AONB.
  • The expected planning application by W&H Park for the Greenhouse site at Great Horkesley.
  • Plans for the 2016 summer party.
  • The proposal housing development at East Bergholt and elsewhere.
  • The proposal to apply for a Bronze level International Dark-Sky place.
  • Issue of new Street Lighting in Cox’s Hill, Lawford.
  • Issue of overhead cables at Hallfields.
  • Draft local development plan
  • Proposed housing development at Bures
  • Proposed change of use to residential of Lamarsh Lion Pub
  • Contributions to the magazine.
  • Membership of the society.
  • Arrangements for the 2016 AGM to be held at Langham Community Centre on 26th September.
  • Arrangements for a Winter Lecture to take place on Monday 28th November at The Dedham Assembly Rooms at 8.00pm.  Mark Mitchells to speak on Constable and Gainsborough.
  • Issue of tree felling in Dedham which has made the business park very visible.
  • Issue of Footpath 18 having recently been ploughed across.

Annual General Meetings

The Society’s next Annual General Meeting will be held on
Monday 26th September 2016 at Langham Community Centre

The business of the meeting was as follows:
  • The chairman welcomed 10 trustees and 22 members of the Society to the 78th annual general meeting.
  • The minutes of the last AGM and the accounts for 2015 were adopted.
  • The Essex and Suffolk planning reports for the year, as published in the newsletters, were discussed. 
  • The treasurer explained the accounts for 2015 and said that the Society had an unusual deficit.  The main reason for which was the Flagship on Langham Church.
  • Nella Probert and Will Sambrook were re-elected as a committee member.
  • The membership secretary reported that there were 864 members from 540 addresses and that there had been 16 new members during the last 12 months.
  • The low cost of life membership was discussed.
  • The president made his report on the past year.
  • Darren Tansley, the Water for Wildlife Officer for the Essex Wildlife Trust gave wide-ranging illustrated address covering virtually every aspect of nature conservation in the Vale.

Summer Party 2008
The Society’s summer party was held on a rare lovely evening in June 2008
at the home of the president, Robert Erith: Shrubs Farm, Lamarsh.
